About Our Yarn
Nutmeg Fibers brings quality wool to knitters and crafters of all kinds. Nutmeg Fibers are hand dyed with natural dyes with small, sweater quantity batches. Nutmeg Fibers are made with 100% American fibers. We use only the best of US Fibers, milled just for us at a state of the art, Leed-Certified mill, as well as working farm, that promotes eco-consciousness within fiber production. Nutmeg Fibers is a place to find wonderful, hand-dyed yarns, thoughtfully crafted patterns, tutorials on knitting and dyeing, yummy recipes to snack on while you’re making and more.
In late 2018, Nutmeg Fibers launched our Wooland member-based community: a place for lovers of fiber traditions. It’s a place where knowledge is passed along, so that these traditions can stay alive. Those that are members in Wooland directly support our ability to provide free tutorial content on the Nutmeg Fibers website, as well as other wonderful things that can be discovered in Wooland.
At Nutmeg Fibers, we believe that whole garments can be made from natural dyes. We believe that wool doesn’t have to be superwash to be useable in everyday life. We love that we can feel the lanolin on the fibers, and that we can smell the fields that the sheep walked in on the undyed yarn when it comes to us from the mill. We love that bits of dyestuff sometimes come off on our hands when we work with fibers dyed with traditional methods. We love the idea that our fiber-loving ancestors years ago may have used the same methods to produce a garment from start to finish as we are using today!

We ship orders out in a timely manner, in the order that we receive them, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, until 5pm CST. We can’t guarantee shipping times, but make every effort to get your items to your doorstep within a maximum of 5-7 business days.
Please understand that we are a Micro-business, with often only 1 employee in a week working on order fulfillment, so our shipping turnaround may be longer than our current culture has us accustomed to now, with Amazon, etc. delivering often on the same day. We love being a small business and hope to continue to balance work and life alongside our wonderful customers!
United States - We ship to all US locations straight to your doorstep. We use USPS for our deliveries, and tracking information will be sent out to you as soon as we receive it. Choose between USPS First Class and USPS Priority Mail rates as given to us by the USPS. If you’d like your package faster, you can choose Extra Fast Shipping as an option at checkout as well!
International - We love our international friends! We ship through UPS or USPS (whichever provides the best shipping rate) and will get it to you as soon as possible. We now offer a NO-RUSH INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING option at a lower rate, for those of you who live far away but don't need your yarn in a hurry! Choose your preferred international shipping rate during checkout. International shipping time estimates are as follows:
Canadian Priority Shipping and International Priority Shipping options arrive within an average of 6-10 days of ship date
No-Rush International Shipping arrives within an estimated 2-3 weeks of ship date
After all the love and care that we put into our products, we feel confident that you will love your order! Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or through our contact form if you feel that your order is not satisfactory. If your item was damaged during shipping, please see more information in the next section. A few notes about returns:
Skeins must not be opened, wound or used in any way
Returns are not accepted on “Sale” or Discounted Items
Returns are not accepted after 30 days of purchase date
Returns on skeins will not be accepted due to slight variations in color, or crocking since this is an expected characteristic of hand-dyeing with natural dyes
Shipping cost on returns will be paid by customer
If you purchased your skeins from a LYS, they will process your refund
WE DO NOT ACCEPT RETURNS ON GIFT CARDS ,PATTERNS OR BOOKS.
We know that sometimes things get damaged during transit, no matter how much care we may package it with here at Nutmeg Fibers before it leaves our HQ. Here's what to do if your package has arrived damaged:
Please contact us immediately with an email to email@example.com (immediately means within 48 hours of receiving your items)
We don't process returns for damaged items after 48 hours of your order being delivered
After we receive your email, we will get in touch with the details on how to return your damaged item
Items damaged during shipping
While we dye in small batches, we still dye in sweater quantities so that you can make anything your heart desires with our naturally dyed yarns. Dye lot # is stamped on the back of your skein's label, just below the sticker. If you are hoping to find a certain vat # to match, you can do so when you order. When packaging orders, we always do our best to send skeins from the same dye lot when more than 1 skein is ordered.
Sales tax is only charged for those customers that are located in Tennessee, since that is where we are located as well.
